Q:
I like colorful jewelry,
but I don't have pierced ears. What are my options?
A:
One of the
features we wanted to offer our customers is the option to choose their
favorite earwire (click here).
All the earrings on our website can be made with clip on earwire (sterling
only).
Our clip ons are comfortable so they
don't give the wearer headaches. The earrings are lightweight enough that
they don't pull on your earlobe. As soon as we find them, we will
also carry non-pierced 14kt gold earwire.
Q:
I have sensitive ears. Can I
wear tre•sis® jewelry?
A:
Yes. In fact,
tre•sis® handmade
jewelry was founded to alleviate the problem of finding fashionable,
colorful earrings for sensitive ears. Most women with sensitive ears are
allergic to nickel. Most of the metal used in jewelry-making has
some amount nickel. All of our earrings are available with nickel-free
fishhook earwire (the only exception is hoops). Nickel-free earwire
is typically for women with very sensitive ears. Many customers with sensitive ears find they can
also wear our
sterling silver and 14kt gold earwire.

Why are your products handmade?
A:
We began our business with the goal of
creating unique jewelry. The care and individual attention we give to each
piece ensures even looks of the same style will have distinct
characteristics. Our handcrafted products use gemstones that may vary in
size and color. Our clients prefer the look of our jewelry creations to
uniform, machined looks.
Q:
I like the styles on your
website, but I prefer
closed loop earwire. Can you do that?
A:
Yes. We have designed our website so
customers may select the earwire they prefer on each pair. Our choices
include fishhook, leverback (closed loop), clip on, and decorative earwire
styles in both 14kt gold and sterling silver. We also have nickel free
earwire available in a fishhook style.
Q: The
holes in my ears are
stretched because I used to wear
heavy
earrings. I would I like
to continue to wear
earrings, but
they have to be lightweight. What
do you have
that I can
wear?
A:
Everything. Let your preferences for color
and style be your guide. Usually, earrings are heavy because they’re made
from non-precious metals. Sterling silver and 14kt gold are naturally
lightweight. We also ensure the combination of stones and crystals used in
the earring style keeps the weight at a minimum (less than 2 ounces). Our
goal is for you not to feel the earrings while you’re wearing them.
Q:
Isn't surgical steel and hypo-allergenic the same as nickel free?
A:
No. Surgical steel may
actually contain some nickel, the most common irritant for people with
sensitive ears. Hypo-allergenic could also be made from a metal alloy that
is uncomfortable for people with sensitive ears. If the product isn’t
labeled “sterling silver”, “14kt gold”, or “nickel free”, you can’t
be sure what it’s made of.
Q:
What types of stones do you use?
A:
We use a wide variety of semi-precious
stones including amethyst, aquamarine, jade, citrine, and quartz. The
types of stones vary depending on the look we’re creating. The beauty of
stones is that they may vary as to size, color, and shape even within the
same family. The color and shape of the stones determine the look of each
creation. The variations ensure a unique, handcrafted piece of jewelry.
