January 9, 2005 - New Product Additions Premiered at Accessories the Show June 18, 2003 - New Jewelry Exclusively for Retailers Presented at Trade Show February 3, 2003 - Television Appearance February 2, 2003 - Secure Online Shopping November 14, 2002 - "Wearable" Jewelry Product Launch Press Release Men Buy More Accessories Online PLANO, TX December 1, 2003 Upward Trend in Men Shopping Online It could be because men traditionally don’t like to browse as much as women, but men are outpacing women in online shopping. They are buying for women as well as for themselves. Through September 30, 2003, 58% of our online orders have been from men. Data through November shows an upward trend from these numbers.
Men Buy More Jewelry for Themselves Men are accessorizing more. If you look in magazines and at television, entertainers and athletes wear diamonds, platinum and other more “flamboyant” jewelry. But what does the accountant or engineer wear when they want to update their look? These men are probably less comfortable wearing large, extravagant pieces of jewelry; their lifestyles require understated accessories. Many men have also found a lack of choices of simple designs in stores. Shopping online, they can search for what they want quickly to see what’s available. Men gave “ease of internet shopping” and “lack of simple choices” in brick and mortar stores as top reasons for looking on the internet for accessories. From February 1, 2003 through November 30, 2003, our data shows: · 62% of all online orders are from men · 38% of all online orders are from women · 26% of orders from men are for women · 8% of orders from women for men Although orders from women have increased in the 3rd and start of the 4th quarter, orders from men have increased more dramatically.
Other interesting facts: · Men place more orders of more than one item · Men are more likely to buy on the 1st look than women · Women are more likely to comparison shop than men
What Men are Buying Even traditionally more conservative men are buying accessories that are simple and low key. The most popular items for men are: 1. Black Leather and Suede with Sterling Silver Pendants 2. Simple Suede Bracelet 3. Choker with Dark Brown Jade and Dark Green Labradorite Stones “Men that are buying from tre•sis have responded well to our simple line of accessories. Although many women are buying for the men in their lives, we have growing numbers of men buying for themselves. Due to increased demand for men’s products, we have designed a line exclusively for retailers that will premiere at our January 2004 Atlanta Gift Show,” said Joan Childress, founder of tre·sis handmade jewelry.
